Jason Mitchell, a right-handed pitcher from Moorpark College, signed a letter of intent with Lewis-Clark State College on Thursday, becoming the fourth area player to select the National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletic program in Lewiston, Ida.
Mitchell (6-foot-3, 235 pounds), a Canoga Park High graduate, was 5-2 with an earned-run average of 2.11 this season at Moorpark. He will be joined by Moorpark catcher Del Marine, who committed to the school last month.
Mitchell, Marine and Pierce shortstop Ricky Banuelos will join former American Legion teammate Gregg Sheren at Lewis-Clark. Banuelos signed earlier this season and Sheren signed last spring after completing his senior year at El Camino Real. All four played for Woodland Hills West in the American Legion Northwest regional at Lewis-Clark in the summer of 1989. One week later, West won the Legion World Series title.
“It’s exciting,” Mitchell said. “It’ll be a new experience, but I’ll be going through it with friends. With me, Del and Ricky, it’ll be just like Legion.”
