The Boss Report: With Bruce Springsteen’s summer tour plans expected to be announced today--amid slumping U.S. album sales--the nation’s rock fans got an advance look at the Boss’ new band when he made his first-ever live television appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” Pianist Roy Bittan--the lone holdover from Springsteen’s E Street Band--was joined by guitarist Shane Fontayne, drummer Zachary Allen and bassist Tommy Simms backing Springsteen on a hard-edged “Lucky Town,” a jagged, frantic “57 Channels” (introduced with news sound bites, some culled from L.A. riot coverage) and the mainstream rocker “Living Proof.” Word is the tour will begin in June in Europe, with North American arena dates later in the summer.
