Ueberroth and Rebuild L.A.
During all the analysis of the events that have transpired around L.A. I am amazed that the emphasis is put only on creating economic opportunity for the black male. What about women? Does this mean that once (if ever) black men attain an equal economic footing with white men that women will once again be left behind and the entire women’s movement will have to start all over for black women?
Even Rep. Maxine Waters, herself a successful black woman, is speaking out, stressing the need for opportunities for black males. Women need the same economic opportunities as men. There have to also be alternatives for women other than teen-age pregnancy and welfare, a vicious cycle which is where the problem begins.
