CITY GOLF : Taft’s Mink, Grant’s Team Win Titles

Taft High senior Sheldon Mink shot a second-day 79 at Wilson Golf Course on Wednesday to finish at 154 and win the City Section individual golf championship.
Granada Hills senior Tim Fernholtz, who played in Mink’s foursome, shot 77 to finish second at 155.
Grant, which shot 822, won its second consecutive team title. Granada Hills (825) was second and Taft (829) third.
Each member of Grant and Granada Hills qualified for the State championships in San Diego on June 8, as did the top 10 other finishers.
Grant’s Elise Kimm, a co-leader Tuesday with a 75, teed off almost 1 1/2 hours after the others because of an advanced placement test in the morning. Kimm’s second-day 86 dropped her to eighth place at 161.
Granada Hills’ Kevin Kurhajec shot a 76, the best round of day, to finish third at 156.
Cory Karpin of Grant shot 157 to finish fourth. Teammate Johnny Choi (159) was fifth.
