After the Disturbances, a Plea to Join Together
- Share via
Who was it who wrote, “If we fail to learn from history, we are destined to repeat it”? How very sad this statement speaks of our society today. People so misunderstood and distrustful that we fail to be human. Perhaps the destruction and violence in Los Angeles could be a baptism by fire. If we could renew our vow to humanity and develop trust in people, perhaps a common understanding will ensue.
We must get past the hate, the destruction, the violence and begin working toward the betterment of all. You might ask what is my solution? Well, we need to start by educating ourselves, our children and, most of all, our politicians. If laws need to be developed, then develop them. If programs need to be developed, then develop them. We have the resources, we have the need, we have the desire. Perhaps if Congress and Mr. Bush would walk a day in the shoes of an average man or woman of South-Central L.A., then they might know what the plight of this community and others nationwide is. Let us start today and continue every day to come together to live and work as neighbors and brothers under God.
