Consolidation of Public Services
I would like to respond to the article “Community Groups Plead for Support” (May 10).
It was obvious to me that these groups were all needed and provided valid services. What I found interesting was the similarities in the services provided.
Since we are in times of reductions and cutbacks, I would think it would be in the best interest of everyone to consolidate some of these services. The Boys Club cannot work with or have services available for gang members, teen employment, etc.? The Pomona Mission, which helps the homeless, cannot also serve the hungry?
I think that with reduced funding, we all have to take on additional responsibilities or tasks. This is exactly what is happening in the private sector. Maybe if these groups could be under one umbrella, they could all provide these needed services but at a reduced cost.
