Florida Lawmaker Bows Out of Reelection Bid

WASHINGTON — Rep. Dante B. Fascell (D-Fla.), the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee whose district is being drastically redrawn, announced Wednesday that he will not seek reelection.
“The decision I’ve made is purely a personal one,” he said at a news conference, adding that he is interested in consulting or teaching. He was first elected to Congress in 1954.
Fascell’s announcement brought to 65 the number of House members who will not return next year, a post-World War II high.
