Hoping to prove that Los Angeles can be rebuilt quickly if red tape is snipped, a construction company pledged Thursday to stage a modern-day barn raising to replace an arson-destroyed Griffith Park camp in time for children’s use this summer.
Kaufman and Broad Home Corp. has recruited tradesmen to work around the clock to build a $1.7-million headquarters for Camp Hollywoodland by July 16. The finished structure will be donated to the city, company officials said.
Delighted city leaders promised to quickly issue construction permits--fast-forwarding a project that might have taken as long as three years to design, pass city review and then be built.
