Faria’s Victory Is Fifth of Season

COSTA MESA — Mike Faria of Colton won the four-lap scratch main event in front of 3,297 in the weekly speedway motorcycle program at the Orange County Fairgrounds Friday, his fifth victory in the 10-week-old season.

Steve Lucero of Riverside was second, Shawn McConnell of Brea third and Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa fourth.

Faria took the gate, led wire to wire, and was two bike lengths ahead of Lucero at the finish.

Gary Ackroyd of Newport Beach won the eight-lap handicap main event, his first victory of the season. Robert Pfetzing of Orange was second, Lucero was third, Schwartz was fourth and Chris Castin of Venice was fifth.
