25 Killed by Flooding in Northeastern Iran

GENEVA — Torrential rains and floods have killed 25 people and caused extensive damage in northeastern Iran, a U.N. agency said Thursday.
The Office of the U.N. Disaster Relief Coordinator said about two inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours in the Mashhad area last week, causing severe flooding. Hardest hit was new housing built around seasonal river beds.
About 500 houses were destroyed, and roads, bridges, vehicles, farms and livestock suffered heavy damage, the agency said.
