Shelley Taylor, the State 1,600-meter champion from Edison High, will run the mile at the prestigious Keebler Track and Field Invitational Saturday at Elmhurst, Ill.
Taylor, who graduated from Edison last week and will run for Arkansas this fall, ran a national-leading 1,600 time of 4 minutes 48.52 seconds in winning the State meet.
That time has since been bettered by Kim Fisher of Aston, Pa., who won a mile race in 4:46.73 at the National Scholastic track and field championships last weekend at Los Angeles Birmingham High.
Converting Taylor’s time in the 1,600 to the mile, a slightly longer distance, her time would be 4:50.12, nearly four seconds slower than Fisher’s time.
