Sculpted by Design

Looking for something to do on Father’s Day weekend? Take Dad to see some stone, steel and wood at the Peter Strauss Ranch (Lake Enchanto) in Agoura Hills.
Of course, it won’t be just any stone and steel. These materials will take on something other than their natural forms in the 6th Annual Golden State Sculptors Assn. show and competition on Saturday and Sunday.
“You’re going to see a broad spectrum of design,” said Walt Ingle, president of the association. “Quite a significant amount will be realistic things, figurative things, whether they are animals or people.”
Eighty-five sculptors will be on hand, showing 450 works. Stone carvers Carlyle Montgomery of Ojai and Michelle Chapin of Ventura will be among them. Last year about 5,000 spectators turned out for the event over the two days.
The outdoor event will be held 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Admission is free. The Ranch is off Mulholland Highway in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. For directions and more information, call Ingle at (818) 889-8346 or the recreation area office at (818) 597-9192.
