Nathanson Trial to Begin Next Year

SACRAMENTO — U. S. District Judge Lawrence K. Karlton on Tuesday set Feb. 10 for the start of former California Coastal Commissioner Mark L. Nathanson’s political corruption trial.
A federal grand jury indicted Nathanson last month on eight felony counts of extortion, racketeering, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and income tax evasion. The indictment alleged that Nathanson, a Beverly Hills real estate broker, extorted hundreds of thousands of dollars from people seeking permits from the commission.
The trial, expected to last 10 weeks, was delayed until next year in part because the case against Nathanson is legally complex.
