Woman Favored as Polish Premier

WARSAW — A 46-year-old lawyer was the leading candidate to become Poland’s first woman prime minister Saturday.
Hanna Suchocka, a member of the Democratic Union party, won the widest support in overnight negotiations attended by eight parties.
The incumbent prime minister, Waldemar Pawlak, resigned last week after failing to put together a coalition.
