Spat in Spoleto: The Vatican slammed the Festival of the Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy, for putting on a dance show by New York-based choreographer Bill T. Jones because it ends in nudity. “The Last Supper at Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” opened in a deconsecrated church in Spoleto last week. The performance, a protest against racism and discrimination, ends with all the dancers stripping naked to symbolize equality and was staged in Los Angeles recently. “The shameless ostentation of mass nudity . . . was a pointless and stupid provocation which seeks out scandal by offending spectators,” the Vatican newspaper said. The jamboree of European and U.S. culture began on June 24 and ended Sunday.
