BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Cardinals Send Jordan to Triple A

St. Louis outfielder Brian Jordan got his first pinch hit of the season Sunday off Kevin Gross, then learned after the game that he was being demoted to the Cardinals’ triple-A club in Louisville.
Jordan, who played three seasons for the Atlanta Falcons as a defensive back, signed a three-year, $2.3 million contract with the Cardinals June 15 and agreed to give up his football career.
“He’s been struggling,” Cardinal Manager Joe Torre told the Associated Press. “He had a good streak for us for about two weeks. He’s done a marvelous job overall, considering the limited experience he’s had.”
Jordan, 25, was hitting .207 in 55 games with five home runs, 22 runs-batted in and seven stolen bases. He had been hitless in 14 consecutive at-bats before getting two hits and scoring a run Saturday against Orel Hershiser.
The Cardinals are expected to activate Jose Oquendo today to replace Jordan.
