Charlie Perry Steptoe, 21, a nephew of George Foreman, drowned at the boxer’s ranch in the east Texas town of Marshall. Steptoe was pronounced dead after being pulled from the swimming pool by Foreman on Saturday night. His death has been ruled accidental, authorities said.
Steptoe was supervising three of his young cousins during a family gathering, and when the youngsters went to shower, Steptoe apparently dove or fell into the pool.
Foreman was not at home when the incident occurred, but when he later drove up to the ranch, the youngsters told him that Steptoe had not emerged from the pool. Foreman said he dived in and tried to save his nephew. Steptoe is the son of Foreman’s sister from Houston.
