CARLSBAD : Sewage Spills Into Lagoon
About 100,000 gallons of sewage spilled into Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad when a pump station failed, authorities said.
The sewage overflowed from the pump station holding pond and entered the lagoon, which spills into the ocean. The spill started at 9:45 p.m. Thursday and stopped at 10:30 p.m., authorities said.
Officials notified the YMCA, which has a water sports camp on the north shore of the lagoon.
County health inspectors placed warning signs Friday at the pump station, the YMCA camp and the railroad tracks that cross the lagoon, as well as along the ocean at Carlsbad State Beach.
