Help Wanted Ad Index Falls: The number of help wanted ads in U.S. newspapers fell slightly in July, another sign that the labor market was failing to gain momentum, a business research group said. The Conference Board’s help wanted advertising index dropped to 91 from 92 in June. In July, 1991, the index was 93. The languishing recovery, coupled with a new round of layoffs at a few companies, dragged the index down in July, said Conference Board economist Ken Goldstein. “While the economy is no longer declining, economic recovery has been minimal, providing little stimulus to the job market,” he said.
