Trischa Zorn of Indianapolis, a four-time member of the U.S. team in the Paralympics, won the 100-meter breaststroke to pace a 15-medal American performance on the opening day of the Paralympic Games. Zorn, 29, set a personal best of 1 minute 26.46 seconds in winning the gold by 1.51 seconds over Gabriella Tjernberg of Sweden.
Jason Wening of O’Fallon, Ill., won the 400-meter freestyle in 4:52.46.
Adding to the U.S. medal count was John Morgan of Huntington Beach, who won a silver medal in the 100-meter freestyle.
