*** Jeannette Katt, “Pink Mischief,” A&M.; At a time when most records by female artists cluttering up the charts are cliched and shallow as a puddle, credit is due to anyone who can write so guilelessly about light bondage, self-gratification and tender, amorous feelings toward a gay male friend. This Upland-based singer-songwriter is worth checking out just for the boldness of her lyrics--Sophie B. Hawkins may be the only other new pop singer who rivals Katt for sheer audacity.
