Canyon Runs and Shoots Down Sonora, 33-7

LA HABRA — There were at least two things that came out of Canyon’s 33-7 victory over Sonora on Friday night at La Habra High.
One, Canyon’s run-and-shoot offense got off to a fast start. Two, there’s lots of room for improvement for the Raiders and first-year Coach Mark Takkinen.
The Comanches got a good performance from quarterback Gunnar Strunz. The junior completed 15 of 27 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns.
Canyon broke the game open in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns. The first came on an eight-yard run by Daryl Lawrence with 9:33 remaining to give Canyon a 27-7 lead. Quarterback Adam Hoover hooked up with Greg Jacobs for a 60-yard touchdown pass for the other.
“I was really high on this team coming into the game,” Takkinen said. “But we’ll look at the game films and get ourselves prepared for next week.”
