World IN BRIEF : PAKISTAN : Flood-Threatened Villagers Evacuated

Army helicopters and troops worked to evacuate as many as half a million people from 300 villages along the rain-swollen Indus River in southern Pakistan. A spokesman said that 600,000 more people have been told to be ready to leave their homes. The official Pakistani death toll from heavy rains last week is 650.
