BERKELEY — A newborn girl kidnaped from her mother’s hospital room in June was found alive and well Tuesday in nearby Richmond by police acting on a tip.
Baby Kerri was 2 days old when she was taken from Alta Bates Hospital on June 12, apparently by a woman posing as a county worker. The baby’s 16-year-old mother went on national television pleading for Kerri’s return.
Berkeley Police Lt. Tom Grant said authorities received a tip from a neighbor and found Kerri vigorous and healthy.
Richmond resident Karen Lea Hughes, 41, was in custody in connection with the case, police said.
