Escaped Inmate’s Stroll Ends in Arrest

BUENA PARK — Less than a day after escaping from jail, an inmate at the James A. Musick facility was found walking on Beach Boulevard by police.
Jail officials were not sure how Eric Michael Chavez, 19, made his escape. The Buena Park man had been arrested Sept. 16 for reckless driving and evading a police officer. He was scheduled for release in about three weeks.
However, police spotted Chavez strolling down Beach Boulevard in Buena Park about 4 p.m. The landscaper was arrested without incident and returned to Orange County Jail.
Chavez is the fifth Musick escapee to be recaptured in the last two months. Freedom was also fleeting for the last inmate to be caught. Gary Todd Reres had been out of jail for less than a day before he was spotted on the street by a sheriff’s fugitive investigator on Aug. 5.
