The Burbank City Council has increased fines for overdue library books and hiked library fees for non-residents.
Under an ordinance adopted Tuesday night, the fine for each day a book is overdue was increased from 10 cents to 20 cents for adults and from 5 cents to 10 cents for children.
The new maximum fine is $5 or the replacement cost of the book, said Holly Hinman, director of the Library Services Department in a report to the council.
The council also voted to increase the annual library card fee for non-residents from $10 to $50 a year and hike the fee for replacing lost cards from 25 cents to $1.
