GENEVA — Switzerland moved within one victory of its first Davis Cup final as Jakob Hlasek and Marc Rosset scored singles victories over Brazil in the semifinals on Friday.
Hard-serving Rosset, last summer’s Olympic singles champion, defeated Jaime Oncins, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5, to open the best-of-five indoor series in which both teams are shooting for their first Davis Cup final.
Hlasek rebounded after lapsing in a third-set tiebreaker and beat Luiz Mattar, 6-2, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3.
Switzerland could clinch its finals spot in today’s doubles, where Hlasek and Rosset are favored against Cassio Motta and Fernando Roese.
