COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Killeen, Titans Run to Second-Place Finishes at Riverside

Heather Killeen, Orange County’s highest finisher, took second overall at the UC Riverside women’s cross-country invitational Saturday to help Cal State Fullerton to a second-place finish behind UCLA in the Division I competition at UC Riverside.

Polly Plumer, formerly of University High and competing for Nike Coast, won the 5,000-meter race in 17 minutes 2 seconds. Killeen finished in 17:13.

Fullerton’s Kristin Peters finished fourth with a time of 17:44, and teammates Ruth Varamontes (18:25) and Lucinda Reyes (18:32) finished 12th and 16th.

UC Irvine’s Tanya Brix finished 15th in 18:28. The Anteater women were fourth in Division I.

In the men’s competition:

Fullerton second--Mike Tansley finished in 25:09 to finish fourth, leading Fullerton to second in Division I. UC Irvine was third with Brian Hild (26:00) and Adam Shanks (26:37) finishing 20th and 36th.

In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s soccer:

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 2, Chapman 1--Todd Henry had two goals to lead Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (5-2, 2-1). Josh Parrot scored for Chapman (4-2, 1-2).

In nonconference women’s soccer:

UC Santa Barbara 2, UC Irvine 1--Kristen Campbell and Phronsie Franco each had a goal for Santa Barbara. Dana Schueler had the Anteaters’ only goal.

In Big West women’s volleyball:

Nevada 3, Cal State Fullerton 1--Kerry Haggard, with 14 kills, led Nevada (4-8, 2-2) to a 15-9, 15-9, 11-15, 15-11 victory. Lisa Parbst had 18 kills for the Titans (0-7, 0-2).

UC Irvine 3, Utah State 0--Anastasua Arnold had 10 kills for host Irvine (7-6, 2-4) which won, 15-4, 15-9, 15-12.

Marie Motil had 12 kills and Kristene Spencer 11 for the Aggies (2-11, 0-4).
