Van Nuys 19, Monroe 13--Bill Calhoun scored on a one-yard run with 2:11 remaining and then intercepted a pass with a minute to play to secure the win for the Wolves (3-1, 1-0) at Monroe.
Van Nuys running back Efrain Martinez finished with 89 yards in 13 carries to help the Wolves amass 161 yards on the ground. Quarterback John Petersen completed five of 10 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns.
Petersen connected with Juan Garcia on a 38-yard play early in the second quarter and added a 44-yard touchdown pass to Taj Tucker on a tipped ball with 1:43 remaining in the first half.
Jeff Nadeau countered 13 seconds later with a 90-yard kickoff return to keep Monroe in the game.
