Wright Helps Lift Katella to Victory Over Estancia

COSTA MESA — Jaret Wright passed for 188 yards and ran for a touchdown to lead Katella to a 21-14 victory over Estancia in a nonleague game Friday night at Orange Coast College.
Wright, a junior, dove in from the one-yard line with 5 minutes 48 seconds remaining in the first quarter to set up Katella’s first score.
Wright completed nine of 12 attempts and threw one interception. He was also his team’s leading rusher with 48 yards.
Katella (2-2) gained its first victory since a 49-0 victory over Magnolia in the season opener.
After a first half that saw both teams combining for 110 yards of penalties, Katella held a 14-6 advantage. With 5 minutes 34 seconds left in the third quarter, Katella’s David Rojo ran in from three yards out on a third-and-goal play, giving the Knights a 21-6 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Estancia quarterback Matt Johner, who was nine of 17 for 154 yards, connected with tight end Jason Sweet from eight yards out and then passed to Sweet for the two-point conversion, bringing the Eagles within seven points, 21-14.
