LAKEWOOD — Brethren Christian quarterback Reggie Davis threw for two touchdowns and ran for one as the Warriors beat La Serna, 20-14, in a nonleague game at Artesia High.
La Serna (2-2) had failed to score three times from within the Brethren 35-yard line when Davis finally marched Brethren 77 yards in 18 plays with 5 minutes 4 seconds left in the second quarter. Davis, who scored on a one-yard run, also led the Warriors in rushing with 82 yards on 16 carries.
La Serna scored at the start of the second half two plays after a successful on-side kick. Quarterback Josh Hamlin hit Jim Hunter with a 21-yard touchdown pass.
Brethren (2-2) answered on its next possession as Davis hit Scott Thomas with a four-yard touchdown pass. Thomas, who caught nine passes for 86 yards, also played defense and kicked two conversions.
Hamlin connected with Donnie Gunritz with another 21-yard touchdown pass for La Serna’s second score.
Gunritz intercepted Davis in the end zone at the start of the fourth quarter, but Mark Stump thwarted Hamlin’s next throw with an interception, which set up Davis’ 15-yard touchdown pass to Thomas.
