Antelope Valley 21, Rio Hondo 0--Antelope Valley combined a stifling defense with a conservative ball-control offense at El Rancho High in Pico Rivera.
The Marauders (3-0-1, 2-0) limited Rio Hondo (1-1, 1-1) to 65 yards in offense and sacked Roadrunner quarterbacks seven times for minus-50 yards.
Antelope Valley led, 7-0, at halftime on Al Dawkins’ two-yard touchdown run, but the Marauders scored twice in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Dawkins, who led all rushers with 88 yards in 18 carries, scored on a one-yard run early in the fourth quarter and Trevell Spears added a two-yard touchdown run with three minutes to play.
Spears, playing in only the second half, had 77 yards in 10 carries and Greg Graham added 48 yards in nine carries for Antelope Valley.
