South African Trade Show: South Africa will hold its first trade show outside Africa in the Persian Gulf emirate of Dubai this week, taking another step toward ending decades of commercial isolation. More than 100 South African companies will be exhibiting at the show, which is seen as erasing another of the anti-apartheid barriers that have prevented direct links between South Africa and the outside world. “This is the first event of its kind to be held outside Africa. It is designed to put South Africa back into the world trading environment,” said Gyff Fitchat of the South African Foreign Trade Assn. South African trade with the Gulf has been conducted mainly through third parties until now.
