TRW Inc. said its profit rose 54% to $49 million in the third quarter because of cost controls, lower expenses and high volume in its automotive segment.
The $49-million net earnings compared to $32 million a year ago. The 1991 quarter included a $6-million gain on the sale of two affiliates.
Earnings per share of 77 cents were up from 52 cents a year ago. Revenue for the quarter was $2 billion, compared to $1.9 billion in 1991.
TRW, which is based in Cleveland, said all three of its business segments--automotive, space and defense, and information systems and services--showed improved profit margins in the third quarter.
