Organizers of the 1995 America’s Cup have agreed to scrap the made-for-TV course off San Diego used in the 1992 regatta and expand the finals from a best-of-seven series to a best-of-nine.
The defending San Diego Yacht Club and the Challenger of Record, Yacht Club de France-Sete, agreed on the changes at meeting in St. Tropez, France.
Races will be 20 miles over a 2.5-mile windward-leeward course, with four windward legs and four downwind legs. Organizers eliminated the three reaching legs that formed a Z-lap.
