Late Bakersfield Field Goal Forces Moorpark to Settle for a 10-10 Tie

BAKERSFIELD — Bobby Rocha kicked a 27-yard field goal with 27 seconds remaining as Bakersfield College salvaged a 10-10 tie with Moorpark on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium before 11,203.
The Renegades (4-1-1, 3-1-1 in the Western State Conference) began the tying drive from their 16-yard line with 5 minutes 52 seconds left.
Along the way, Bakersfield succeeded on two third-down plays. First, Carl Dean passed to Ramondo Howington for 14 yards to keep the drive alive. Later, Angus Sumlin ran up the middle and carried defenders with him for a four-yard gain and another Bakersfield first down.
The Renegades reached the seven-yard line for a first down with 48 seconds remaining. Sumlin ran for a yard. Then tackle David Burger was called for illegal motion, costing the Renegades five yards and pushing them back to the 11-yard line.
On third down, Dean overthrew David Dunn in the end zone, and the Renegades had to settle for a field goal.
Moorpark (4-0-1, 3-0-1 in the WSC) took a 10-7 lead on a 31-yard field goal by Brian Balleweg in the third quarter.
The Renegades tied the score, 7-7, late in the second quarter when Dean hit Jermaine Davis out of the backfield with a two-yard pass.
The Raiders took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Corey Tucker threw a 31-yard pass to Ryan Kieling.
