CIS Drops U.S. Women in Volleyball

The U.S. national women’s volleyball team dropped a 15-4, 0-15, 15-6, 15-6 decision to Olympic silver medalist Commonwealth of Independent States on Sunday in the final day of the Hong Kong Cup. The U.S., bonze medalists at Barcelona Olympics, were coming off a 3-1 defeat of gold-medalist Cuba.
Tammy Liley had 11 kills and Dietre Collins eight for the U.S. Middle blocker Liley and outside hitter Janet Cobbs were named to the all-tournament team.
BASKETBALL
The deadline to enter the annual Gus Macker Charity Tournament has been extended to Wednesday at 4 p.m. Applications are available through the San Diego Police Athletic League by calling 281-7783.
