The Lannan Foundation has announced nine recipients of the 1992 Lannan Literary Awards and Fellowships.
Awards, given for significant contributions to English-language literature, went to Gilbert Sorrentino for fiction, Noam Chomsky for nonfiction and A. R. Ammons for poetry.
Fellowships, which recognize writers of merit with potential for outstanding future work, were given to Frank Chin for fiction and to five poets--Thomas Centolella, Killarney Clary, Suzanne Gardinier, Susan Mitchell and Luis J. Rodriguez.
The nine authors will each receive $40,000. The Los Angeles-based foundation, which initiated the awards and fellowships in 1989, this year increased the number of honorees from eight to nine and the amount of the awards from $35,000.
