More Police for Los Angeles

I noted that The Times has endorsed the ballot proposition to increase the size of the Los Angeles Police Department by 1,000 officers.
As the former commanding officer of the LAPD Valley Bureau and as former commander responsible for deployment of all uniform and detective personnel, I can absolutely guarantee you that the Valley is shortchanged in the deployment of officers generally, and of its authorized deployment by the LAPD’s own formulas.
Before any voter casts a “yes” vote, Chief Willie Williams should be asked to provide a specific formula by which the new officers will be deployed; otherwise, the taxpayers in the Valley will be paying for ghosts.
