LOS ANGELES : Wachs Asks Audit of DWP Salaries and Spending
- Share via
Los Angeles City Councilman Joel Wachs on Thursday called for an independent audit of the Department of Water and Power, saying the agency has never received adequate public scrutiny over its expenditures.
Wachs, a mayoral candidate, also proposed giving the Water and Power Commission an independent staff, and changing the commission board to better reflect the city’s socioeconomic makeup.
Wachs said he wants the proposed audit to investigate salary disparities between the DWP and other city agencies, look into salaries of top management positions, the $6.7 million spent on public relations, the $7.2 million outlay for travel and the DWP’s hiring freeze.
Last week, Wachs called for a review of the city’s sewer maintenance fund.
