ALTADENA : Controversial Foothill Development Wins OK

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, overruling a decision by the regional Planning Commission, voted Thursday to approve a gated, 272-home development and private school in the foothills of Altadena.
Barring a successful court challenge, the board’s 3-1 vote clears the way for groundbreaking of the controversial La Vina housing development by spring.
The 220-acre project, most of it within Angeles National Forest, was proposed five years ago but has been blocked by numerous legal and administrative challenges. As now envisioned, the development would bring 43 more homes to the foothills than approved by the planning commission.
The lone vote against the project was cast by Supervisor Gloria Molina, who urged a scaled-back development.
