Pomona : Job Center Plan Supported
Councilwoman Paula Lantz won support from her City Council colleagues this week for efforts to develop a hiring center for day laborers.
Grossman’s, a building supply store on Mission Boulevard, tried last year to organize a hiring center for laborers who were congregating in the parking lot. The effort was abandoned after complaints from customers and neighboring businesses.
Laborers continue to congregate near the store, now known as Contractors Warehouse, but they have no organized hiring system.
Lantz said Brea has a job center for day laborers that could provide a model for Pomona. The council authorized her to meet with laborers, businesses, school officials and others to develop a plan.
