Voters Made Other Points

Your usually insightful political analysis missed several significant points made by Ventura County voters.
Ventura County strayed far from the California mainstream by making Bruce Herschensohn the largest vote getter in the entire county. Also, it took L.A. County voters to tell political pariah Tom McClintock to “get a life” and to get a real job. Otherwise, east county voters would have sent him to Washington as congressman.
And again, the large number of ever-suffering Democrats in the 37th Assembly District gave their all for an excellent woman candidate (Roz McGrath), only to be defeated by the Republican reapportionment demon. A visit from the good gerrymander fairy is clearly called for again.
Finally, it took a national/state election to wake up enough voters in Ventura to respond to Measure O, the desalination/state water advisory measure. More than twice the number of usual municipal election voters turned out and desalination garnered more votes than any City Council candidate in recent memory.
This is the strongest indication of why Ventura city elections should be held at the same time as national/state elections. Municipal election costs would be reduced also.
