LITTLE PALM ISLAND, Fla. — Vice President-elect Al Gore and his family went scuba diving Friday and explored the coral reef off the Florida Keys.
The Gores arrived Tuesday at Little Palm Island, a resort about 28 miles northeast of Key West, and they have been sunbathing, parasailing and learning to scuba dive, said Joe Roth, a general partner of Little Palm Island.
“He told me the whole idea behind the vacation was to be able to spend some quality time with Tipper and the children,” Roth said. “He seems quite impressed with the resort and the seclusion we’ve been able to provide.”
Roth said the Gores were planning a nature excursion today to observe bird species in the back waters in the lower Florida Keys.
Originally named Munson Island, Little Palm Island has hosted Presidents Harry S. Truman, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Richard M. Nixon.
