OUTLOOK
Laguna Beach reached the section IV-AA quarterfinals last year with a small team that ran, pressed full-court and shot three-pointers as if they were layups. This year should be no different, although some of the personnel is. Sharpshooters Tom Ravensberg and Darren Gravley have graduated, but Butcher (9.5 points a game last season), Orsborn and McDonald can all shoot well from three-point range. The Artists have some size inside with Gage, who’s up from the junior varsity, and Garner, who averaged five points and seven rebounds last season. Garner was a second-team all-league pick despite missing six games after undergoing shoulder surgery during football season. “Trigg had a good summer,” Fleming said. “He had some 20-point games for us. He’s a horse inside.” Max Borella, younger brother of former Artist scoring standout Josh Borella, figures to be a factor as the team’s point guard. “He had 12 assists for us the other night in a scrimmage against Santa Ana Valley,” Fleming said. “He has done an outstanding job. He’s the opposite of his brother; we need him to shoot more.”
