Countywide : Celebrators Can Get Free Taxi Rides
- Share via
Patrons of bars and restaurants in Orange County who planned to drive home but fear they have celebrated the holiday season with a little too much alcoholic abandon can ask restaurant managers to call a taxi that will take them home for free.
The 13th annual Taxi Time program will continue through Jan. 1 and operate throughout almost all of Orange County, said Kevin Markee, a spokesman for Straub Distributing.
Taxi Time will only pick up customers from retail establishments. Private parties cannot use the service, and restaurant patrons cannot call the taxi companies themselves to request a free ride.
Holiday celebrators will be given free service for up to 25 miles from the pickup point, Markee said.
The program is sponsored by Consolidated Beverage Distributors, Coors Distributing, Quality Beer Distributors, Southland Beverage and Straub with the cooperation of Yellow Cab of North Orange County and Coast Yellow Cab Co.
Last year, more than 900 free taxi rides were given to county residents as a result of the program.
