Debate over Elevated Rail
After three years of uninterrupted construction on the Ventura Freeway, directly in my front yard, I am now about to be blessed with another proposed four to seven years of elevated rail construction.
The recent Times article states that the elevated rail system is anticipated to cost up to half a billion dollars less than the subway. Let’s not kid ourselves; has a public works project ever been on budget? This will go many hundreds of millions over budget.
And many stressed and preoccupied drivers will surely appreciate the opportunity to take their eyes and minds away from the rigors of the road and focus their attentions on the beauty and obvious dollar-savings of the lovely overhead rail system, especially while they are being rear-ended by another commuter doing the same.
