‘Fly’ to PBS?PBS officials have inquired about moving NBC’s “I’ll Fly Away” to public television and producing new episodes of the critically acclaimed drama. If that happened, it would be the first time that a prime-time show went from commercial to public TV while still in production. John Falsey, who produces the program with partner Joshua Brand, said he would be pleased to have the show go to PBS if it were dropped by NBC, as expected, but noted that the show’s deficit financing (it costs at least $1 million per hour to produce, and Lorimar takes an estimated $250,000 loss on each episode) may hinder the proposal.
