Singleton Palmer, 80, a brass player and violist who toured with Count Basie’s band in the late 1940s and later formed his own Dixieland-style jazz troupe. After leaving Basie’s band, Palmer toured with his own Dixieland sextet, playing both bass horn and bass viol.
