Singleton Palmer, 80, a brass player and violist who toured with Count Basie’s band in the late 1940s and later formed his own Dixieland-style jazz troupe. After leaving Basie’s band, Palmer toured with his own Dixieland sextet, playing both bass horn and bass viol. The group was well known for its performances in St. Louis’ old Gaslight Square, and released an album by that name. In St. Louis on Monday of the complications of bone cancer.
