The Cal State Long Beach University Art Museum--temporarily housed since 1984 on the fifth floor of the university library--plans to relocate to another campus site in February, 1994.
A wing of a 2-year-old building originally constructed as an electronic library will house 4,000 square feet of exhibition space (about the same as the temporary galleries), an art research library, a docent classroom and a museum shop. The as-yet unbudgeted project--for which plans are being drawn up by Killingsworth, Stricker, Lindgren, Wilson & Associates Architects--was initiated with a $30,000 gift from the Long Beach-based Robert Gumbiner Foundation.
The UAM was accredited by the American Assn. of Museums in 1984 and is the only museum in the 20-campus Cal State University system.
